Paddlesport development course

Service Description

The Explore award recognises your ability to independently paddle your chosen craft in a sheltered water environment and is the required standard of Paddling to attend the Paddlesport Safety & Rescue course and the Paddlesport instructor award. During the Explore award you will take ownership of your own decisions and learn to make confidence choices, based on the places you paddle, wind and weather. Dates: Training day - Sunday 12th May Assessment day - Sunday 9th June Timings: 10:00-16:00 Location: Varied - Tamworth, Staffordshire and local surrounding areas Age: 14+ (Under 18's must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is also attending the course) Price: £150pp - 2 day course Craft: Your chosen craft - Kayak, Canoe or Paddleboard Pre-requisites: There are no formal pre-requisites for the Explore award but this is not a beginners course. You need to have already completed the Discover award or be Paddling at an equivalent standard. If you’ve never been paddling before, take a look at the Start award as part of a taster session or the Discover award as part of our Learn to courses. The award covers: -On the water etiquette and how to share the space with other water users -Different environments you can paddle (lakes, rivers, canals, estuaries) -Controlling your kayak, canoe or SUP safely -Rescue techniques -Clothing and equipment needs for different environments and weather -Safe exploration What's included: -Certificate cost -Waterways license -Qualified, experienced & DBs checked Coach -Safety equipment such as towlines If required: -Helmet hire -Buoyancy aid hire -Boat/Board hire -Paddle hire We recommend using your own equipment, but if you need to hire anything please let us know at the time of booking, this is free of charge.
